creating space
to be seen

Black and white portrait of a woman lit by window light during a Found In Light photography session in Mount Eliza, Victoria.

portraiture with presence
for individuals
couples & families

Most people don’t know how to be seen.
They know how to pose. How to perform. How to wear the version of themselves the world expects. But very few know how to stand still long enough for the mask to fall away.
With more than fifteen years behind the camera as a cinematographer, Dan learned to read what lives between frames; the hesitation before expression, the tension in posture, the story carried in a glance. When he turned to still photography, he didn’t leave that skill behind. He refined it. Slowed it down. Gave it room to breathe.Dan’s work sits at the intersection of fashion and portraiture, but the surface is never the point. He is interested in presence. In how someone occupies space when they stop trying to manage how they are perceived. In what appears when they feel safe enough to be unguarded.

This portrait explores quiet expression and natural light, photographed during a Found In Light session on the Mornington Peninsula.

Dan's sessions are quiet, patient, and instinctive. He does not force moments into existence. He creates the conditions for them to arrive on their own. A calm, attentive presence affords a softening, an opportunity to drop the performance, and to meet the lens without armor.Integrity guides his practice. Whether working with individuals, families, or fashion subjects, Dan approaches each session with respect for the person behind the image, and an awareness of the story beneath the pose.
The photographs that emerge are not loud. They don’t demand attention. They hold it.
At its core, Dan’s work is about the psychology of being seen.
About creating images that carry weight because they were made in a moment of honesty.
Not photographs of how you look. But images of who you are when you stop trying.

A colourful portrait of a spirited woman with her hand on her heart in Mount Eliza, Victoria
This is one of my more creative, fashion inspired portraits. A woman prancing a child like persona on a beach in Frankston, Victoria
I shot this portrait while we sipped coffee at a cafe in Frankston, Victoria. I loved the red and blue lighting contrasting skin tones against the background fairy lights

" Dan is a true collaborator. I have worked with him on several projects. He is so versatile and easy to work with. I always feel free and comfortable in front of his camera. In my 30 years as an actor and artist, he is the photographer that I’ve felt most at ease with, by far. "

This portrait was captured at her home in Glen Iris, Victoria. I loved the background lighting and the sun through the window while she rested her head on the couch in meditation
This is such a beautiful naturally lit portrait. She looks so soft and comfortable. A portrait of a hug.
This was a portrait captured in motion on a camping trip at Wilsons Prom, Victoria. Love the natural smile

" Dan completely understood and executed my vision to perfection.
His enthusiastic, warm, reassuring nature and organic artistic approach resulted in the authentic photographs I’ve been dreaming of for years. "

This was captured at a retirement community in Mount Eliza, Victoria. A beautiful close up revealing a deep sentiment in his eyes
This portrait leans more to my fashion attributes. I love the outfit and the colour palette, and her content expression. Captured at Seaford Beach, Victoria.
This portrait was one of very few where I move the camera away from my face. His expression as he looks across the property seems very contemplative. And the motion compliments the vibe.

" Dan is a humble wizard behind the camera. He makes you feel relaxed, valued, and able to just be yourself. A true gentle, and giant genius. I highly recommend Dan if you want your soul to be honoured in a photograph. "

- Nicolette

A man in deep consideration with soft expression. I love the lighting in this. It lends well to the black and white sepia cinematic tone. It evokes such sweet emotion
This portrait was captured at Brighton Beach, Victoria. Theres such depth in his eyes as he gazes into my lens.
I love that sunset almost silhouetting her outline. This was shot at Bear Gully near Wilson Prom in Victoria.

" Working with Dan was such a positive experience from start to finish. His calm, relaxed approach made the entire session feel effortless and enjoyable. Dan created a comfortable environment that allowed me to be myself, which really came through in the photos. I highly recommend Dan to anyone looking for not only beautiful images, but also a photographer who brings warmth, authenticity, and a great energy to the experience. "

the light
beyond portraits

Found In Light is centred on personal portraiture. It's the work that feels most meaningful to me - creating honest images that exist somewhere beyond performance and pose.At the same time, my creative journey has taken me through many different forms of visual storytelling.Over the years, I've worked professionally across photography and video production, with much of my previous work focused on music videos, alongside fashion, creative branding, promotional films, and commercial imagery. While portraiture remains at the heart of this project, I'm always open to the right creative collaborations - particularly those that value authenticity, creativity, and genuine human connection. If your idea doesn't neatly fit into a portrait session, don't let that stop you from getting in touch.
